"In Banyumas, as elsewhere [in Java], [recording] musicians receive a single fee, with no royalties. For this reason, musicians tend not to complain about the rampant pirating. They have already received their fee and in some cases are pleased that their music is popular enough to merit the efforts of the piraters. One reason suggested to me by one Banyumas musician is that piraters tend to be poor Javanese and licensed cassette-company owners wealthy Chinese."
